Conservation in Action
Conservation has always been at the heart of Trowunna. We champion the protection of Tasmania’s unique wildlife through hands-on action and powerful educational experiences.
Trowunna plays a leading role in breeding species that are declining in the wild, most notably, the Tasmanian devil. As the most successful Tasmanian Devil breeding facility both historically and today, we proudly share our expertise through our specialised Tasmanian Devil Training Courses, helping others contribute to the survival of this iconic species. Our work also extends to vital in-situ conservation projects for the Tasmanian devil and the Spotted-tailed quoll.
Our Tasmanian Devil Conservation Grant Fencing Project is now complete and fully operational. This state-of-the-art, bio-secure fencing allows our devils to participate in the ZAA–DPIWE insurance population of the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program. Within these diverse new enclosures, designed to comfortably house up to 38 devils, our team works daily to ensure each animal receives optimal enrichment, stimulation, and care.
For more than 37 years, animal welfare has been our highest priority. Our devils are exercised and monitored as part of a rigorous wildlife management program that supports their health, behaviour, and long-term wellbeing.
