A full day learning about wombat care & rehabilitation
Our one-day Wombat Workshop gives you the opportunity to take a closer look at wombat care and learn from the experience we've gained working with wombats at Trowunna.
Throughout the day, we'll cover wombat biology, life history, behaviour and reproduction, looking at wombats in the wild as well as their care and management in captivity.
Rehabilitation is also an important part of the day. We'll look at the care involved in rehabilitating wombats and the considerations that go into preparing suitable animals for release back into the wild.
The workshop combines this knowledge with practical husbandry sessions, demonstrations, handling, daily care and observation of wombats within Trowunna's captive collection.
We'll also look at the role wildlife organisations can play in rehabilitation, education, research and conservation.

Understanding the animal comes first
Caring for wombats well starts with understanding how they behave, what they need and how their natural biology influences the way we care for them.
Rehabilitation adds another layer. The aim isn't simply to care for an animal in captivity, but where possible, to give that animal the best chance of successfully returning to the wild.
Through this workshop, we share practical knowledge gained through the long-term care, rehabilitation and release of wombats at Trowunna.
Whether you're hoping to work with wildlife or simply want to understand wombats better, we hope you leave with a greater appreciation of the species and the work involved in their care and rehabilitation.
Practical knowledge from Trowunna's wildlife team
Your workshop will be led by one of Trowunna's experienced wildlife keepers or, when available, Managing Director Androo Kelly.
Androo has extensive experience with Trowunna's wombat rehabilitation work and captive management programs.
The workshop draws on practical knowledge developed through the long-term care, rehabilitation and successful release of wombats.
What happens on the day will always work around the animals. Their welfare comes first, so practical activities may vary depending on the needs of the wombats in our care at the time.
You don't need to already work in the industry
This workshop is open to a wide range of people, from those already working professionally with wildlife through to anyone who simply wants to gain more knowledge and experience with wombats.
