Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary provides the Dasyurid Captive Management Course as an industry-endorsed training program for the captive management and husbandry of Tasmanian devils and quolls.
The course combines practical, hands-on experience with theory, including lectures, audiovisual presentations and demonstrations delivered on location at Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary in Mole Creek.
Upon completing the course, participants will be able to demonstrate the skills required for successful dasyurid husbandry, including safe handling, breeding, display and exhibit design.

What participants will learn
The program is designed to build the knowledge and practical competencies needed to manage dasyurids safely and successfully.
Husbandry and handling
Develop practical skills in routine husbandry, safe capture, restraint, handling and health monitoring.
Behaviour and breeding
Build an understanding of dasyurid behaviour, reproduction, breeding management and population planning.
Display and exhibit design
Learn how thoughtful facility and exhibit design can support animal welfare, husbandry and successful breeding outcomes.
Course modules
The course is divided into two intensive three-day modules coordinated around key stages in the dasyurid life cycle.
Dasyurid Husbandry for Display
Module 1 focuses on developing competency in the husbandry and management of dasyurids for display, with a particular focus on Tasmanian devils.
Advanced Husbandry and Breeding
Module 2 provides advanced training in breeding management, reproductive behaviour, population planning, facility development and exhibit design.
Please note: Module 1 and Module 2 can be undertaken in either order.
Each three-day module
$1,300Per participant, per module. Each module is delivered as an intensive three-day course at Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary in Mole Creek, Tasmania.
Course dates
Course dates are coordinated around animal life cycles and activity within the Sanctuary. Dates may vary by approximately one week and will be confirmed with registered participants.
